The strategic manoeuvre aims to reconcile the objective of achieving rhetorical effectiveness with the dialectical goal of maintaining reasonableness. It manifests itself simultaneously in the choice of topic from the range available, in adapting to the requirements of the audience¿s demands and in the choice of appropriate mechanisms of presentation. Taking the strategic manoeuvre into account makes a richer and more precise method for the analysis and evaluation of argumentative discourse possible. Problems that cannot be solved using the standard theory can be addressed when pragmatic-dialectical theory of argumentation incorporates tools to include the strategic design of discourse analysis and evaluation.
