Based on the perspective of identity, consciousness and subjectivity of black intellectuals such as Stuart Hall, Bell Hooks, Cornel West, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and W. E. B. Du Bois, alongside postcolonial critical approach as Bill Ashcroft, Gareth Griffiths, Helen Tiffin and Homi Bhabha among others, this book provides the theoretical framework for reviewing Easy Rawlins's novels, written by Walter Mosley from a postcolonial perspective. Mosley reappropriates conventions of the detective novel gender, to represent American society in the 1950s and 1960s from a marginal perspective. The subjectivity of Easy Rawlins is determined by its role as a detective, postcolonial consciousness as black man who grew up in a society dominated by whites and finally, by his attachment and defense of a strong African-American culture.
